महाराष्ट्र 14 न्यूज : सावित्रीने सत्यवानाचे प्राण वाचवण्यासाठी यमलोक गाठलं आणि तेव्हापासून सर्व सुवासिनींनी वटपौर्णिमा व्रताला सुरुवात केली असं म्हटलं जातं. आपल्या पतीला उत्तम आयुष्य आणि आरोग्य लाभण्यासाठी हे व्रत करण्यात येतं असा समज आहे. वडाच्या झाडाला सात फेऱ्या मारून आणि त्याची पूजा करून हे व्रत करण्यात येतं. सावित्रीने यमदेवाकडून आपला पती सत्यवानाचे प्राण याच दिवशी परत आणले. त्यामुळे सुवासिनींसाठी हा उपवास अत्यंत महत्त्वाचा मानला जातो. ही घटना ज्यादिवशी घडली त्यादिवशी पौर्णिमा होती. त्या दिवसापासून सुवासिनी महिला या पौर्णिमेच्या दिवशी पतीच्या प्राणांचे रक्षण व्हावे आणि आपल्या पतीला सत्यवानाप्रमाणे दीर्घायुष्य लाभावे यासाठी हे व्रत करतात.
सावित्रीने आपल्या पतीची सेवा वडाच्या झाडाखाली केली आणि यमदेवाने तिथेच सत्यवानाला त्याचे प्राण परत दिले असा समज आहे. त्यामुळे वडाच्या झाडाच्या पूजन केले जाते. ज्येष्ठ पौर्णिमा ही वटपौर्णिमा नावाने ओळखली जाते. खरं तर हे व्रत तीन दिवसांचे असते. पण हल्ली केवळ महिला वटपौर्णिमेच्या दिवशी उपवास करून हे व्रत करतात.
पौराणिक कथेनुसार, भद्र नामक देशात अश्वपती नावाचा राजा राज्य करत होता. त्याला सावित्री नावाची कन्या होती. सावित्री अतिशय सुंदर, नम्र व गुणी मुलगी होती.
सावित्री उपवर झाल्यावर राजाने तिलाच आपला पती निवडण्याची परवानगी दिली. सावित्रीने सत्यवान नावाच्या राजकुमाराची निवड केली. सत्यवान हा शाल्व राज्याच्या धृमत्सेन नावाच्या अंध राजाचा पुत्र होता. शत्रूकडून हरल्यामुळे आपल्या राणी व मुलासह राजा जंगलात राहत होता. भगवान नारदाला सत्यवानाचे आयुष्य केवळ एक वर्षाचेच असल्याचे माहिती होते. त्यामुळे सत्यवानाशी विवाह न करण्याचा सल्ला सावित्रीला दिला. पण सावित्रीने ते मान्य केले नाही. तिने सत्यवानाशी विवाह केला आणि जंगलात नवऱ्याबरोबर राहून सासू सासऱ्याची सेवा करू लागली. सत्यवानाचा मृत्यू जेव्हा तीन दिवसावर येऊन ठेपला तेव्हा तिने तीन दिवस उपवास करून सावित्री व्रत आरंभ केले.
सत्यवानाच्या मृत्यूच्या दिवशी सत्यवान जंगलात लाकडे तोडण्यास निघाला असता, सावित्री त्याच्याबरोबर गेली. लाकडे तोडता तोडता त्याला घेरी आली व तो जमिनीवर पडला. यमराज तिथे आले आणि सत्यवानाचे प्राण नेऊ लागले. सावित्री यमाच्या मागे आपल्या पतीबरोबर जाऊ लागली. यमाने अनेक वेळा सावित्रीस परत जाण्यास सांगितले. पण तिने या गोष्टीसाठी नकार दिला आणि आपल्या पतीसह जाण्याचा हट्ट धरला. अखेर कंटाळून यमाने पती सोडून तिला तीन वर मागण्यास सांगितले. सावित्रीने सासऱ्यांचे डोळे व राज्य परत मागितले. तिसरे वरदान मागताना, मला पुत्रप्राप्ती होऊन सत्यवानाची वंशवृद्धी व्हावी, अशी इच्छा व्यक्त केली. यमराजाने तथास्तु असे म्हटले आणि त्याला सत्यवानाचे प्राण परत करावे लागले. सत्यवानाचे प्राण सावित्रीने वडाच्या झाडाखालीच परत मिळविले. म्हणून ज्येष्ठ महिन्यात पौर्णिमेला महिला वडाच्या झाडाची पूजा करून उपवास करतात व वट सावित्री व्रत आचरतात.
